During Muslim Heritage Week I taught the 1st graders about Abbas ibn Firnas; the first to fly. They loved it and were so excited and thrilled to learn about him. After we learned about him we conducted a science experiment using the Scientific Method. We decided to find out which paper airplane would fly the farthest. The students wrote their question, observed the airplanes, and made their hypothesis (they always go for the cool fancy green one haha). Then we conducted our experiment by flying the airplanes and measuring their distance. We recorded it on our data tables and discovered the red airplane flew the farthest. It was a fun way to teach them about great Muslim figures from the past and learn the Scientific Method along the way. |
